Mayor Teresa Tomlinson on “Healing and Renewal Through Civic Engagement.”

Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson will explore the power of the collective through government and how our civic structures stabilize and sustain us.

Mayor Tomlinson, who is in her second term, has set a number of political records. She was elected in 2010 as the city’s first female mayor, with a landslide 68 percent of the vote. She was reelected in 2014 with 63 percent of the vote, making her the first mayor since the city-county consolidation in 1971 to be reelected in a contested election.

Tomlinson also has been named five times to Georgia Trend’s 100 Most Influential Georgians list. And she led an effort to save her undergraduate alma mater, Sweetbriar College, from closing. The Virginia school is thriving today, with Tomlinson chairing the board of directors.

Tomlinson moved to Columbus in 1994 and married Wade “Trip” Tomlinson. She practiced law here for 16 years and was the first female partner at Pope, McGlamry, Kilpatrick, Morrison and Norwood. She grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Emory University School of Law. She also has served as executive director of MidTown, Inc., a nonprofit community renewal organization.
