Thanks to all those who came and spoke to our prayer vigil for the freedom to marry. We were standing on the side of love for all of like mind here in Columbus, GA. We prayed particularly for the success of the plaintiffs and their lawyers in the upcoming marriage equality cases before the Supreme Court, opening arguments of which begin this Tuesday, April 28.
Thanks especially to all those involved in planning and coordinating this event, including UUFC members Patricia Lassiter, Harry Underwood, Bill Harlan and our Social Action Committee, local activist Jeremy Scott Hobbs, and Georgia Equality activists Rob Woods and Rev. Duncan Teague. Leslie Lanning, co-leader of Columbus NOW, was also in attendance. Rev. Emily Bel’s prayer was read on her behalf by Latia Gibson, Mayor of Columbus Teresa Tomlinson’s statement of support was read on her behalf by Tom McDaniel, Sr.
After this event, we in Columbus are all the more aware of the freedom to marry as a fulfillment of our 1st Principle.
