This Sunday’s service, May 30 at 11 a.m., will salute those who gave their lives in service of our country. Fellowship member and veteran John Nix will speak. Connie Ussery will lead the service. We’ll meet indoors in the spacious Grace Fellowship Hall, with procedures to lessen risks from the waning pandemic. We’ll also offer this service on Zoom for those not ready to meet in person.
Long-time Fellowship member John Nix grew up in South Carolina. He earned a degree at Furman University in Greenville, S.C., then a law degree from Tulane University. He served for 20 years in the U.S. Army with the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, and after he retired from the military he practiced in Columbus. He and his wife, Chris, have a son, a daughter and two grandsons.
John is a lifelong student of a wide range subjects, including history. He’ll shed light on the backstory of Memorial Day. He also he plays trombone with the Columbus Community Orchestra, so he’ll open our Memorial Day service with Amazing Grace and close it with Taps.
Almost all of our members and friends have been vaccinated for COVID-19. That said, children’s religious education and child care remain suspended, and the Friday lunch group meets only on Zoom. On Sunday, Masks are optional for fully vaccinated people. We welcome guests. If you are not at least two weeks past being fully vaccinated, please do wear a mask and maintain six feet of social distance.
