Dr. Nick Norwood

Columbus State University is celebrating Carson McCuller’s 100th birthday this year. Our program for this Sunday (March 5) will be  “An American Malady: Loneliness as Theme in the Works of Carson McCullers,” presented by Dr. Nick Norwood, who teaches creative writing at CSU. Norwood is a widely published poet, and he also directs the Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians in Columbus, Ga.,  and in Nyack, N.Y.

Tuesday, Feb. 28
5 p.m. Women’s Book Club. “Beautiful Ruins” by Jess Walter

Wednesday, March 1
6 p.m.  UU Singers this week
7 p.m.  Wednesday Night Discussion Group. Topic: “What Should be the Plan for the Government Center and Courthouse Square?”

12:30 p.m. Friday Lunch Group meeting at the Mandarin Café on Veterans Parkway, near the Mellow Mushroom.

Sunday, March 5
Today is Bring a Friend Day and the First Sunday potluck lunch after the service. (Visitors, just bring your appetites. We’ll have plenty.) Childcare is available from 9:30 a.m. until noon.

9:30 a.m.  Adult Religious Education:  “Kabbalah and the Inner Life of God”, Part 2, led by Rick Spradlin.

10:30 a.m. Coffee and conversation before the service.

10:45 a.m. Sunday  service. Today’s program is  “An American Malady: Loneliness as Theme in the Works of Carson McCullers,” presented by poet Nick Norwood.

10:50 a.m. Children’s Religious Education: “The More We Get Together”, led by Nate Gross. (Children join us for the first part of the service, which includes a children’s story. Then the kids adjourn to a classroom for their own program.

Don’t forget to bring clothing for the clothing drive. We are collecting clothes and shoes appropriate for job interviews and work.
