We’ll gather to celebrate Lammas Day, an Anglo-Saxon holiday to celebrate the first wheat harvest. ( Normally Lammas is celebrated on 1 August, but we agreed to change the date to coincide with the Wednesday night discussion group. It is a cross-quarter day in the Wiccan calendar, which means it’s halfway between the summer solstice and the fall equinox.)
We’ll meet in the Meditation Garden, if there’s not rain, or in the Pavilion if it’s wet.
Bring a whole loaf of bread (like French bread so we can break bread together, and your favorite beverage. If you are a hardcore Lammasite, bring homemade bread made from wheat you grew and harvested yourself. Hal Midgette will provide olive oil and herbs for dipping, which are not part of the Anglo-Saxon tradition, but surely the Romans had a similar celebration. Gingerbread men are also welcome.
There will be short, informal presentation about Lammas Day, followed by an evening of food, fellowship and conversation.
