Henry Jacobs on protecting the Chattahoochee River

Unitarian Universalism’s principles include respect for all people and care for our planet. This Sunday’s talk will touch on both themes. Water, after all, is essential to life, and the nonprofit group Chattachoochee Riverkeeper focuses on care for the waterway that runs through our community on its way from northeast Georgia to the Gulf of Mexico.

Henry Jacobs

Henry Jacobs, our guest speaker, directs outreach and communication for Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, which has 10,000 members throughout the river’s watershed.

Sunday services begin at 11 a.m., but join us early for coffee and conversation. We welcome visitors and guests at our progressive Fellowship. Services include a talk, often by a guest speaker, and they also include music, meditation and optional opportunities to share your thoughts.

Henry Jacobs will talk about exciting new Chattahoochee Riverkeeper programs and how we can get involved. Henry joined the organization full-time in 2013, right after he graduated from LaGrange College with a history degree. He’s also a photographer and a documentary filmmaker. And he occasionally plays drums for GRAMMY-Nominated blues musician Jontavious Willis. Henry was named to Georgia Trend Magazine’s “40 Under 40” list in 2020.

If you do come Sunday, be prepared for a different kind of service. Unitarian Universalism is an unusual religion. For example, we don’t share a creed. Our members include Christians, Jews, Buddhists, subscribers to earth-centered traditions and other religions. We also include humanists, agnostics, atheists and people who resist labels. What we do share is a commitment to the Seven Principles of UU. That includes a promise to support each other in our own unique, free and responsible searches for truth and meaning.

Looking for something different? We’d love to meet you.
