Long-time member John Mallory Land also will be our service leader for Sunday, Aug. 9., which will be available on our YouTube channel that morning.John’s talk, “Aloe for the Soul,” considers the mental and emotional impacts of our current crises. He describes his talk this way: “It looks at how our UU Principles and other guides can help uplift our spirits and that—despite this time of distancing—connecting and communing with others is vital to our successfully coping, and even thriving.”

John’ previous talks have been “Miss Manners Takes a Vacation” and “Social Darwinism.”

John has a background in theater. He has degrees in theater and he works at the River Center. Members and friends might recall that shortly after we moved to our new campus on Heiferhorn Way, John produced and directed Horton Foote’s play, “1918,” which was about the Spanish Flu pandemic’s effect on a small Texas town—a choice that seems, in retrospect, eerily prescient.
