A revolution is beginning in American death rituals and practices, and Fellowship member Judy Barnett says some of the cultural shifts—including DIY funerals and green burials—are aligned with Unitarian Universalist principles and practices. Judy also is a member of our Fellowship’s board and the board of Paz Amigos, a local group that assists immigrants.
Judy is Georgia born and raised. She attended nursing and anesthesia school at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, and she graduated from Columbus State University. Judy worked in Columbus area hospitals for 38 years as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist before retiring in 2009. Now, in addition to social and political activism, she teaches yoga, she hikes, sails, reads widely and enjoys time with friends, family, and five granddaughters.
