Rick Spradlin: “De-escalation: how not to make a problem worse”

The word “de-escalation” is much in the news today, mostly about encounters with police, but it’s a technique all of us could use. Lay Leader Rick Spradlin talks about it in a Unitarian Universalist context on Sunday, May 2,  at a new time—10 a.m.— from our Meditation Garden. (Weather permitting.)

Hal Midgette: “Entangled Life and the Seventh Principle

The Seventh Principle of Unitarian Universalism calls for “respect for the interdependent web of all existence”—in other words, caring for ourselves, our fellow creatures and the planet. Hal Midgette will talk about how the idea of interdependence entwined with the theme Merlin Sheldrake’s popular book, Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds.

Ron Ussery: “Darwin’s Bulldog and the Science Revolution”

The English biologist and anthropologist Thomas Huxley was a contemporary and a supporter of Charles Darwin and an advocate for the scientific method. Unitarian Universalism embraces science.  Ron Ussery will explore Huxley’s life and accomplishments. Join our live Zoom video service to learn more.

Rick Spradlin: “Intro to Universalist Christianity”

We call ourselves Unitarian Universalists because in the 1960s the Unitarian and Universalist churches merged. Our Fellowship mostly focuses on the Unitarian story, but Universalists also have a rich history. On Sunday, March 28, Lay Leader Rick Spradlin will explore the rest of the story. Guests welcome!

Rick Spradlin: “Introduction to Hinduism”

Lay Leader Rick Spradlin is a lifelong student of comparative religion. He’s been surprised by his studies of Hindu belief systems. He admits he’s no expert, but he finds value in the search for meaning as conducted in other faiths.

Ron Ussery on “Doubting Thomas”

St. Thomas, the story goes, refused to believe the Resurrection until he could see for himself the wounds inflicted on Jesus. Over the centuries, the “Incredulity of Thomas” has been interpreted a number of ways. Ron Ussery will examine it from a Unitarian Universalist perspective.
