Robert Cox on Argentina’s “Dirty War”

Our guest speaker is British journalist and human rights advocate Robert Cox. He was forced out of Argentina in 1979 for his coverage of the torture and murders of 30,000 people during a brutal government campaign to suppress dissidents.

Sunday services start at 11 a.m., but join us early for coffee and conversation. Our liberal, progressive Fellowship welcomes visitors. Services often include guest speakers. They also include readings, meditation, music and optional opportunities to share your thoughts. And we’re done by noon!

A book about our speaker

The Argentine government waged a terror campaign from 1976 to 1983. Victims who were “disappeared” became know as “los desaparecidos.” Robert Cox was editor and publisher of the English-language Buenos Aires Herald, which covered a story mostly ignored by Spanish-language media. Eventually, he and his family were forced to flee.

Today, Robert lives in Charleston, SC. His story is the subject of a documentary, “Messenger on a White Horse,” and his son, David Cox, wrote a book about it, “Dirty Secrets, Dirty War.”

If you come, be prepared for something different. Unitarian Universalism is an unusual religion. (Some folks even insist we’re not a religion.) Our informal motto is “deeds before creeds.” We emphasize treating each other with kindness and caring for the planet we share.

There’s more, of course. Join us Sunday for the details.
