UUFC President’s Letter

September 17, 2021

Dear UUFC Members and Friends,

We have survived the long hot summer and have consistently worn our masks to Sunday Services and indoor activities. As a reward, we are able to continue meeting indoors for our Sunday Services and the various activities that our Fellowship offers. One of the lessons learned from the pandemic is that in-person interaction is to be treasured. Thanks to all for your cooperation and consideration of others.

2021 Annual Board Election

According to our bylaws, three candidates for two-year trustee positions will be elected at our Annual Business Meeting December 12. Members currently holding the positions may run again if they choose.  Incumbents Joyce Hickson and Robbie Hinson have volunteered to run again. Judy Barnett has also agreed to be a candidate.

UUFC members who joined the Fellowship at least one year prior to January 1, 2022 are invited to add their names to the list of candidates or to nominate other members who are willing to serve. Names of nominees should be emailed to Office Administrator Brenda Stevens [email protected]. Nominations will be accepted until the end of the November 16 Board Meeting. The time of the meeting will be announced and emailed.

On November 21, the slate of nominees will be announced at the Service and emailed.  An in-person election is planned for December 12 at the Annual Business Meeting, following the Service.

New Members

In August we were happy to welcome four new members. Julia and Aaron Poole joined the Fellowship August 22. Dixie and Bill Turman, longtime friends of our UU, were inducted as members August 29. It’s a great joy to have our membership grow, especially during challenging times.

Podium/Lectern Ordered

Technology changes have improved our Services, but our small podium does not adequately accommodate the technology needed.  Fortunately, Ed and Sydney Wilson recognized the need for a new podium and donated the funds to purchase one. They have met many times with the Design Team to select the best podium for our UU. The Technology Team provided recommendations for fitting the needed equipment to the podium. After much consideration, a decision has been made and a handcrafted hardwood podium has been ordered by Connie Ussery. The estimated delivery time is 14 to 16 weeks.

Website and youtube

Brenda Stevens and Bill Harlan have contracted Columbus Web Services to assist with upgrading our website. Brenda will maintain the calendar. Our Sunday Service is recorded, edited, and uploaded to youtube by Bill. Check it out if you miss a Service or would like to view it again.

Final Thoughts

In a community with a very low vaccination rate, our members have wisely chosen to keep healthy and protect others. I have faith that we will continue to be safe through the flu season and whatever Covid variants come along.

Our Care Team and Little Food Pantry are dedicated to helping those in need. Help yourself to whatever food you can use from the back kitchen. There is a blue box in the library for leaving a message for the Care Team.

Leaves are beginning to change color and fall. Our UU property is a beautiful place to take a walk, sit in the Meditation Garden, or meet friends in the pavilion and listen to the flow of the Heiferhorn Creek.

Until we meet again, in the words of Garrison Keillor from “Prairie Home Companion”:  “Be  well, do good work, and keep in touch.”

In fellowship,

Hal Midgette 706-577-9242 UUFC President
